Another cameo appearance…

Afternoon. The last time I posted was the end of my first term at uni, a couple of weeks ago I came back home from my second term. Don’t get me wrong, as far behind you may perceive Coventry we do actually have internet there, it’s just that in the midst of skipping lectures, assignments, and daylight hours in general, I still can’t find the term or effort to throw some words together and make a post. I have three more weeks off and if I find something to talk about I will.

Anyway, it’s not been a bad term. I had a couple of exams in January and got 60% in both (I was expecting something in the 40s). I aim to do better in my ten exams this summer, and I might if I learn (not revise) the material this Easter. My work ethic passed away recently after battling a long illness. It’s very difficult to get out of bed at 8 a.m. when no one in administration cares where you are. It’s surprisingly difficult to get out 2 p.m. as well. I suppose it’s the hard way of developing self-motivation and hopefully I’ll grow out of it.

Just out of interest, I went to Geneva at the end of term. I was there for two days, primarily to visit CERN. The trip was good but living in 2010s airport security being unable to bring back a CERN Swiss army knife broke my heart. Here’s some pretty pictures:

Anyway, back to business. I’m uploading A-level stuff updates now, to avoid an inevitable broken promise this term. I might upload stuff for people on my course if it’s worth it. Oh, and if you want to contact me about a mistake or a request or anything else that I need to reply to, please e-mail me. I read all the comments eventually, but I don’t login and approve them for ages, so I don’t reply any more as it’s unfashionably late. If you just want to send love or hate mail, comments are fine.

Hi Tom, thanks for making so much material available and please keep it up. Good luck with your studies and do yourself proud. As for the penknife thing, I was in the airport and all when I realised I still had my 16-year old Victorinox in my pocket; damned if I was going to lose it now, I bought a jiffy bag and posted it home so it was there when I got home from holiday. Fate had other ideas though; I lost it on the fairground Teacups with the kids one day. It was like losing a best friend!

Hi, I noticed you updated the C2 section. Could you also do the same for S1 and FP1? Thanks

I wish you luck and plenty of preparation for your upcoming exams Tom. It must be really frustrating to go through all that work everyday and sometimes it tests whether you have passion for your course or not. I know you can pull through. I have always used your site for resources, never onced thanked you, so am thanking you now. Good luck this year and as always onwards. Life does not stay the same forever, chances become limited, life becomes weary, dreary and tiring but then up comes the rewards and the harder you work for it the more rewarding it becomes. I know you can pass, you work hard, am sure of it, you deserve it, your not selfish.

Nice - I've always wanted to go to CERN. :) Can you just turn up, or are they less welcoming to tourists?

You can stroll into the reception and buy something at the gift shop all you want, but you have to book a tour (I highly doubt you can waltz into the places they show you unannounced).

Also I’ll deal with papers later, e-mail me if you have requests because I have no intention to reply to them here.

Hello Tom, I think my A level chemistry students will benefit from your website. Good look with your university course. If going to bed and getting up for lectures are the forward and back reactions in an equilibrium reaction, the equilibrium position may depend on temperature (in units of time of year) and pressure (in units of days to exams). The advice about posting your CERN Swiss Army knife from Sean was an obvious solution, but I probably wouldn't have thought of it either. And your About section is a whimsical read, though I really did laugh when you wrote "will inevitably die from stab wounds connected to correcting the wrong person’s grammar in a dark ally at night." Your grammars not so bad.

When did you goto CERN? I was there on the 6th-9th march. Still doing my a-levels and the mark schemes have been most helpful, thanks.
